1. Location

Simsbury, CT

Less than 10% Travel Required

2. Purpose of Position

This position will develop, improve and maintain the hardware and software that runs on Veeder-Root systems. The Software/Hardware Systems Engineer will ensure that both meet and exceed the expectations of our internal and external customers. This position is intended to create and support both software and hardware platforms used by the products we sell to customers.

3. Key Responsibilities

Hardware/software development, including but not limited to design, coding, testing, initial bring up, and debugging.

Design and development of software drivers for systems to interface with new or changing hardware.

Maintenance and continuous improvement of the existing software in our systems.

Development of software to support Manufacturing, Field Engineering, and the product development teams.

Develop device drivers and improve file systems including security. Implement a plan to keep these components current.

Develop and deploy training for technical support and field engineering on best practices of troubleshooting of issues.

Interface with Marketing, Technical Support, and Sales as to the operating specifics of our systems to support our customers.

Create diagnostics as required to support the new product development.

Design and implement system test equipment and tools.

Providing support for all engineering groups.

Support of Quality Assurance (QA) in testing our software.

Create and execute against action plans that drive improvements in system development.

4. Relationships

This position reports directly to the Director, Software Development, and indirectly to the project/program manager for project responsibilities.

Works closely with the Software Development and Hardware Engineering groups, Principal Engineers, Project/Program Managers, Marketing and Technical Support.

External customers using Veeder-Root systems when Technical Support escalates concerns.

Works closely with operations to support manufacturing testing.

5. Measures of Performance

On-time delivery of projects, measured by scheduled Product Release on key projects.

Project durations, as measured by Project Defined to Product Release durations on key projects.

Success in meeting key organizational objectives.

Success in following development processes and tracking progress with JIRA.

Success tracking tasks in JIRA.

Success maintaining projects in SVN.

Qualifications

6. Background and Skills

Bachelors Degree required; Computer Science/Computer Engineering with an Electrical Engineering minor, or Electrical Engineering with a minor in Computer Science/Computer Engineering preferred.

Strong knowledge of software engineering, both practical and theoretical, required.

Minimum of 5 years of applicable experience required.

Specific knowledge of C, and C++ required.

Specific knowledge of the Bash scripting language required.

Specific knowledge of real time embedded programming required. The knowledge of good code design practices required. The skill to create cohesive maintainable programs that will run in a real time environment required.

Specific knowledge of the Linux system environment required. The knowledge to configure, build and maintain the operating system required. The experience and knowledge to analyze and correct system issues required.

Specific knowledge of hardware engineering required. The ability to design, prototype and troubleshoot digital and analog circuits required.

Experience with designing and writing code to meet specifications required.

Experience with Cell Testing and Manufacturing processes desired.

Basic project management skills required:
more than 2 years of applicable experience preferred.

Strong interpersonal capability in working with cross-functional teams required.

Willingness to learn from senior level engineers required.

Capable of prioritizing and scheduling diversified workload required.

Results oriented driven to meet deadlines while not sacrificing quality.
